The current Town Tax Collector is Mary Beth Sussmann. Her term ends in 2011 She has office hours on Monday mornings between 9am and noon and each Monday night from 7pm-8:30pm except during the summer schedule. The contact number is 413-357-8585 ext. 3.
Property tax bills are mailed twice a year. The first due date is in the fall and the second half payment is due May 1. The interest rate charged on outstanding balances is 14% Failure to pay the bill will lead to a lien being placed on the property.
Excise bills are calculated by the Registry of Motor Vehicles. When you receive your excise bill is based on when you purchased your vehicle, so your due date may differ from someone else’s or be different on your own vehicles. Interest accrues on unpaid balances at the rate of 12% per annum from the 31st day after the issue date of the bill.
Excise payments are due within thirty days. If not paid within 30 days a demand notice is sent. If the demand and outstanding taxes are not paid within 14 days a warrant is issued to the Deputy Collector. Once the Deputy Collector receives the bill all payment arrangements are through their office. The Town’s Deputy Collector is Point Software, Inc.
